Compassion Forum: Hillary and Barack Reveal Their Beliefs

"The questions asked of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama at the Compassion Forum on Sunday night, from journalists and religious leaders, touched on personal matters of faith.

Clinton was asked for a favorite Bible passage. She cited Esther, the Jewish wife of the king of Persia who saves her people from annihilation:

'For me, the recent Purim holiday for Jews raised the question of Esther. And I have been—ever since I was a little girl—a great admirer of Esther.'

Obama was asked what he would tell his daughters if they asked him about the Book of Genesis account that God created the world in six days. He answered:

'What I've said to them is that I believe that God created the universe and that the six days in the Bible may not be six days as we understand it. It may not be 24-hour days.'"
